Parent Workshop – Parenting in Times of Crisis
Presented by Dr. Nouri Ghahary – Time: 9 am (EDT)
We are inviting all parents to attend! This virtual class is part of our new Telemental Health services.
Focus: This group will help parents learn self-care, self-monitoring and other skills needed for effective parenting; it will complement the behavior meetings designed to help parents understand and shape their child’s behavior. This group will be held to provide a venue for parents to gain support from one another. This venue will also enable the sharing of resources as well as a strong emphasis on parent self-care.
The participants will learn:
- Assertiveness and communication skills to improve relationships and set appropriate limits
- Short-term strategies designed to help cope during moments of overwhelming distress
- How to increase positive emotions and decrease negative ones for effective problem-solving
Nouriman Ghahary, Ph.D., LPC (Dr. Nouri) is a licensed psychologist, and a licensed professional counselor in the state of New Jersey. She has been with SFCC for the past 7 years providing family, group and individual therapy as well as parent training workshops. Dr. Ghahary is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She has 14 years of teaching experience in higher education and is currently an associate professor and the coordinator of the Master’s in Counseling Psychology Program at Felician University in Lodi New Jersey.
